The Bonobos of Maï-Ndombé
Yonzika Travel, in partnership with M’Bou Mon Tour: Encountering Bonobos in Their Natural Habitat
Yonzika Travel, in partnership with M’Bou Mon Tour, invites you to enjoy an exceptional experience in the heart of Maï-Ndombe Province, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This unique adventure takes you to one of the few places in the world where you can observe bonobos in complete freedom, in their natural habitat.
Located near Kinshasa and Brazzaville, the Bolobo region has become a global leader in the study and conservation of this iconic species of the Congo Basin. Thanks to the remarkable work carried out for more than twenty years by the M’Bou Mon Tour association and local communities, several groups of bonobos have gradually become accustomed to human presence, allowing for unique observation opportunities today while ensuring their well-being.
Accompanied by specially trained local trackers, you’ll set out through the community forests in search of these fascinating great apes. Watching a family of bonobos move freely through the forest, observing the young ones at play, or witnessing the complex social interactions that characterize the species is a rare and deeply moving experience. Some sightings can last several hours, offering an exceptional immersion into the world of our closest cousins.
Beyond the bonobos, this trip is an invitation to discover the unspoiled landscapes of Maï-Ndombe, featuring tropical forests, wooded savannas, traditional villages, and majestic rivers. It’s also an opportunity to meet the communities that have chosen to protect their natural heritage by developing an innovative model of community-based conservation.
Each trip directly contributes to funding bonobo conservation efforts, supporting the work of village trackers, and developing sustainable initiatives that benefit local communities.
With Yonzika Travel and M’Bou Mon Tour, set out to discover an unspoiled Central Africa, where wildlife viewing goes hand in hand with the communities’ commitment to preserving their environment.
